It’s December 1st and the new challenge has begun!

What exactly is this challenge?

Christie gives a great explanation what this challenge means for her and her family on her blog, Bushel and a Peck.

Do you have to do exactly what she is doing? It is up to you. I think the beauty of these challenges is to figure out what Goodwill means to you and then do it. There are many thoughts in my head about what we are going to do as a family, but here is a quick explanation of  a few things.

Our Belief.

Our family is one steeped in Christian faith – meaning that we believe in the Bible, that Jesus came to earth and died on the cross to save us from our sins and without Him, there is no hope for humankind. The Bible is our absolute truth. It is our True North where we set our compass of moral values.

Why am I telling you all this?

To us, Christmas is, at its core, a celebration of Christ’s birth.{Although we easily lose sight of this fact at times.} As such, my posts will have references to Bible verses and stories. Not everyone shares my belief or my faith and although I do not push my beliefs on others, I am not going to shy away from talking about it. I also avoid getting into theological discussions because I can’t change anyone’s mind when their mind is made up {which is the case 9 times out of 10}. But, I hope my posts inspire you towards helping others regardless of your faith. Nevertheless, I am aware that I may lose a few readers this month. That is okay.

I’m not perfect.

I willingly admit this. Just because I am a follower of Jesus Christ does not mean I’m a saint. I mess up because I’m human. I am going to try my best in this challenge, but there is a part of me that will want to be selfish at times {or a lot of times}. Thankfully, by God’s grace, many good things can be borne out of these mistakes, not the least of which are valuable lessons God has been trying to teach me!

My Church

You are going to hear a LOT about my church. Mainly because my church challenges us on the act of Goodwill every Christmas {actually throughout the year, but particularly at Christmas}. They encourage us to step out of our comfort zone and to give ourselves away to others. Our church is doing some pretty amazing things this December and I am fortunate to be a part of it.

There you have it. A quick explanation of my belief system and how it impacts this challenge. Feel free to follow my journey or join the challenge. There is no grade at the end. No prize to be won. Just a different perspective on how we impact our fellow human beings this Christmas season.

If you’d like to join this challenge and have some people follow your journey. You can sign up on Bushel and a Peck’s Linky List. You can find it at the end of her Day 1 post.
