5 Simple Ways to Save Money on Groceries in 2025
Groceries can be one of the biggest expenses for families, but I have to admit, I’m not a fan of grocery shopping. Instead, I usually order everything on an app and let them select the items for me. This strategy has been a game-changer for saving money because I’m not tempted by all the other things on the shelves. With a little planning and strategy, you can slash your bill without sacrificing quality. These five simple tips will help you save money on groceries in 2025 and keep more cash in your wallet.
1. Plan Your Meals Around Sales and Seasonal Produce
I’ll be honest—I’m the worst at planning meals. When my family first started our debt-free journey, I used a program called eMeals. I discovered them when they were brand new, and they’d email me weekly meal plans and grocery lists. It was a lifesaver! As of this post, they offer a two-week trial so you can test it out. After that, the full year is about $60 upfront or $12.95 per month. Trust me, you’ll save more than that in the long run, and it makes meal planning so much easier.
2. Use Cashback Apps and Digital Coupons
I’ve been using Fetch Rewards for years, and it’s a go-to app for earning cashback on groceries. If you click on my Fetch link and sign up, you’ll get 2,000 coins to kickstart your savings! Recently, I’ve started testing out Receipt Hog. With this app, you can earn spins for coins by signing up using my referal code hiw84372. Many grocery stores also have their own apps offering digital coupons and personalized discounts, so you can save even more without clipping physical coupons.
3. Buy in Bulk (When It Makes Sense)
Buying in bulk can be a great way to save, especially on non-perishable items like rice, pasta, and canned goods. However, avoid bulk purchases for perishable items unless you can freeze or preserve them to prevent waste.
4. Cook at Home and Avoid Pre-Packaged Meals
Pre-packaged and ready-to-eat meals may be convenient, but they come with a hefty price tag. Cooking at home not only saves money but also allows you to control ingredients, making your meals healthier.
5. Stick to Your Shopping List
Impulse buys can quickly add up, especially if you shop while hungry. This is also why I prefer to order on my grocery app and pick it up for free. Write a shopping list before heading to the store and stick to it. A little discipline goes a long way in keeping your grocery bill under control.
Bonus Tip: Shop at Discount Stores
Discount grocery stores often offer the same items at lower prices. Aldi, for example, is one of my favorite places to buy produce because they tend to be less expensive than my local grocer. Stores like Aldi and Lidl have become popular for their affordable yet high-quality options.
